The Standing Order
28-32 Irongate, Derby (01332 207591) As
J D Wetherspoon pubs seem to be appearing everywhere it is
hardly surprising to learn that Derby has one in the form of a
converted Nat West Bank now known as The Standing Order. The
popular location makes it a busy place to be and the usual mix
of food and drink on offer make for an enjoyable experience.
The Old Silk Mill
19 Full Street, Derbyshire (01332 729128) The
Old Silk Mill is an attractive looking pub from both the
exterior and interior. Sunday lunch is a particular favourite
as the cosy open fires and superb roast dinners are what
Sundays should all be about. The rest of the week you’ll
also find a great range of traditional pub food on offer at
down to earth prices.
Friargate
114 Friargate (01332 297065) The aptly
named Friargate gets its name from the street it stands on,
which in turn got its name from the fact that a Friary did
indeed exist in the area in days gone by. Nowadays this
friendly pub offers a cosy interior and standard pub grub, but
is best known for its excellent beers that are a hit with the
local student population.
Flower Pot
25 King Street (01332 204955) Another
popular pub in the Derby area is the Flower Pot. The pub is
made up of several different areas each with their own
slightly different atmosphere. Regular entertainment is on
offer here in a dedicated music area and makes for a fun
evening out. The beers and the food are both of high quality
and the atmosphere a relaxed one.
